Here's the Story of a Hurricane
In 2001, the Federal Emergency Management Agency ranked a major hurricane strike on New Orleans as "among the three likeliest, most catastrophic disasters facing this country," directly behind a terrorist strike on New York City. Yesterday, disaster struck. One of the strongest storms in recorded history rocked the Gulf Coast, bringing 145 mph winds and floods of up to 20 feet. One million residents were evacuated; at least 65 are confirmed dead. Tens of thousands of homes were completely submerged. Mississippi's governor reported "catastrophic damage on all levels." Downtown New Orleans buildings were "imploding," a fire chief said. Oil surged past $70 a barrel. New Orleanians were grimly asking each other, "So, where did you used to live?" To all the Bush supporters and others who
continue, to be fooled ~ Hello In There
Quotes of the Day
There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty.
– John Adams
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

("Taps" at Camp Casey ll)
On my 3rd and final visit to Camp Casey,
as I listened to a tape of Nanci Griffith,
singing " From a Distance " I saw anger
and hate among the Bush supporters, as
I drove through downtown Crawford, TX.
On my right, I saw large US flags, I thought,
"There is no flag large enough to cover
the shame of killing innocent people"
-Howard Zinn
Passing through signs of support for
the lies of George W. Bush, reading
"I am 4 W", I took that to mean," I am for
"war". "W" has come to mean a "W",as
in George W. I say the W is for
( Wimp /Chickenhawk) Bush.
Very clever advertising and multi-
million dollar think-tanks has brainwashed
the American people, the corporate TV
watching ignorant 36% that believes
GWB to be a moral man, and a man that
has other than Oil and , Corporate interests,
and World Domination as an agenda. read :
The Project for the New American Century
As I entered the long dusty road to the
Bush ranch.
I thought of the lies and deceit that foolish
people believe, it saddens me and I don't
like what is happening to our country.
This protest has gotten
a lot of negative attention the lies and
distortion is abundant.
A sign read "Freedom Isn't Free"
What kind of freedom do we have ?
We are being fooled into thinking we
have feedom of speech and we are fighting
for a "noble cause" What Noble Cause?
read here what Cindy Sheehan said:
http://truthout.org/cindy.shtml
On my 3 visits, I met with new friends ,
Stephanie, Joni, and , Holly and family ,
Karen, Stormy and many more from Fort Worth
came to volunteer, and show support for Cindy
I am glad I got to go to Crawford Texas,
I will always have the fondest of memories,
of my time at Camp_Casey . This last trip
there had a bad feeling about it and I felt,
the raw bundled energy in the Texas heat,
It was not the feelings of love and hope and
peace. While waiting for my group of peace
supporters, in a corner roped off to display
banners from a group from Homer , AK.
This last time the heat was unbearable,
people were passing out with heat stroke
drinking water was predominant,
children and elderly people in
wheelchairs, and respirators should
not be out in a tent, in the Texas heat.
I saw an older man , collecting money,
"to help Cindy" He did not have any
buttons or t-shirt on, he may have been with
the "Freepers" I did not feel like
he was on the up and up. I know ,
I must think positive as , my friend Steph
says, she donated 3 dollars, It was hot, people
were very sweaty and miserable.
The time was right for me ,to hit the dusty
trail, after I saw the crowd swell, and angry
shouts, from Bush supporters,
coming from the road.
I saw infants and extremely
elderly and obese people at this rally,
that had no business venturing out in the 100
plus weather. The music was great.
We heard James McMurtry , Steve Earle ,
and many more. Joan Baez , sang on the 2
weekends, she had stayed , for over a week.
One song she played more than once was
"Joe Hill -" and the final song Joan played ,
about a war that devided our country worse
than ever in our history,
( The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down Lyrics )
I met the greatest people of my
life here in Crawford, I'll see you
again and again.

Cindy Sheehan: Freedom Isn't Free - The Peaceful Occupation of Crawford - Day 19
http://www.buzzflash.com/contributors/05/08/con05304.html
A SHORT LIST OF OFFENSES
· George W. Bush came to the Presidency and immediately appointed a cadre of convicted felons and their associates from the Iran Contra era to many extremely important government positions. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· Members of the Project for a New American Century, proponents of preemptive wars against Iraq and Afghanistan were immediately given more than a dozen strategic positions in the new Bush government. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· After 9/11, George Bush refused – for eighteen months - to investigate the causes of the worst attacks in history on American soil. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· Condoleezza Rice lied to the nation about never having imagined the use of hijacked airliners as weapons. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· Rice, Bush and Cheney had to be coerced to testify before the Kean Commission. Rice refused to testify under oath, and Bush and Cheney testified for a very limited time and only as a team. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· Rice admitted to the Kean Commission that the August memo had warned about possible attacks on AMERICAN soil by Al Qaeda, and yet the President remained on vacation at his ranch for the remainder of the summer. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· George Bush manipulated intelligence information in order to gain support for his plans to attack Iraq. That is an impeachable offense. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· Colin Powell lied to the United Nations in a fabricated presentation designed to gain support for a preventive attack against Iraq. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· George Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and Condoleezza Rice lied over and over and over to the nation about Saddam Hussein’s WMD’s, his connection to Al Qaeda, and his plans to attack the US. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· George Bush wrested away your power to declare war by lying to the Congress about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein. He promised to use military force as a last resort, after all other options had been exhausted. He lied to Congress. That is an impeachable offence. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· George Bush handed Haliburton, Dick Cheney’s former company, multi billion dollar, no-bid contracts in Iraq. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· George Bush sent Ahmed Chalabi, a convicted felon, and his source for false WMD information to Iraq with and team of 800 armed thugs. They staged the infamous statue toppling, and bilked American taxpayers out of billions of dollars in regular payments to set up a pro Bush interim government. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· In May of 2003, George Bush declared major conflict ended in Iraq. His mission was accomplished. Since then horrific chaos, death and destruction have followed. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· The Pentagon refused to allow photographs of returning flag-draped coffins, and refused to count civilian deaths in Iraq. Yet, they managed to stage the rescue of Jessica Lynch, which was exposed as a fabrication. AND YOU NEVER SAID WORD
· Our young men and women in Iraq were dying and being maimed because they had no armor on their Humvees to protect them from roadside bombs. They were sent to die without adequate body armor, radios, night goggles and flashlights. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· Tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians were killed by our so-called smart bombs and illegal weapons, including napalm and depleted uranium shells were used as standard weapons. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· Photographs and eye-witness testimony from the ICRC and other agencies proved that the US was breaking international law by torturing prisoners in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay. The problem was systemic and condoned at the highest levels of government. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· Private airliners were being used by the Pentagon to transport prisoners for interrogation in other countries that condone and practice horrific methods of torture. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· George Bush and his cohorts changed the rationale for going to war over and over, manipulating their mantras as each lie was exposed and new reasons were needed to justify their illegal war. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· There was no plan to keep the peace, no plan to stop the looting, no plan to deal with an insurgency despite the warnings of so many in the military. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· The chaos, increased, the deaths and the destruction grew, and the insurgency proved to be unending. But your President told you we were making progress. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· The Downing Street Minutes were leaked to the public months ago. The content of these nine documents made it clear that George Bush had planned an invasion of Iraq at all costs, and that he planned to ‘fix’ intelligence information to gain support for his war of choice. That is an unquestionable high crime that merits impeachment. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· The Downing Street Minutes remain ignored by the White House, and neither the Congress nor the media have demanded answers from the President. Rep. John Conyers was refused a meeting room for an airing of these important documents and had to hold his hearing in a tiny basement room. Such disrespect was unprecedented and inexcusable. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
This, dear Congress people, is the short list. But even in its brevity, it is a powerful indictment of your villainous roles in tacit support of the affairs d’etat of the Bush administration. But, to really get to you, to really make you sit up and look at yourselves with some pangs of conscience, the list needs a powerful finale, - one that makes all the other items almost pale by comparison. So here it is:
· In March of 2003, someone in the White House committed a serious felony. He or she or they leaked the identity of a CIA operative to the press. This was done to punish Joseph Wilson, a man who had dared to expose George Bush’s lie about yellow cake uranium sales to Saddam Hussein. Despite the seriousness of this crime, George Bush did nothing to try and discover who was responsible. In fact, he refused to conduct any investigation of his own staff to uncover a felony under his roof. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· After three months of ignoring a crime by someone in the WH, the CIA demanded an inquiry of what they termed a crime. Only then was the case given to WH buddy and supporter, then AG John Ashcroft. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· Finally, after five months had passed, the case was handed to a Special Counsel working on behalf of the Justice Department. Two years and millions of dollars after the Novak article outing Valerie Plame appeared, George Bush has yet to call Karl Rove aside and demand an explanation. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD.
· Two years and millions of dollars after the article appeared, George Bush has yet to come forward and tell us what he knew and when he knew it. AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD. YOU STILL REFUSE TO UTTER A SINGLE WORD!
It is time now, to speak out people !
Demand the truth.

In the fall of 2001, after an eight-month review of 175,000 Florida ballots never counted in the 2000 election, an analysis by the National Opinion Research Center confirmed that Al Gore actually won Florida and should have been President. However, coverage of this report was only a small blip in the corporate media as a much bigger story dominated the news after September 11, 2001.
New research compiled by Dr. Dennis Loo with the University of Cal Poly Pomona now shows that extensive manipulation of non-paper-trail voting machines occurred in several states during the 2004 election. |

CRAWFORD - Cindy Sheehan, the leader of a growing anti-war protest near President Bush's ranch, ended her efforts to meet with the president today after learning that her mother had a stroke in Los Angeles.
``"If I can, I'll be back. If I can't, I won't be back. But I will be back as soon as possible,"
Sheehan said Thursday afternoon.
She then left Camp Casey, named after her son who was killed in Iraq, surrounded by television cameras.

Someone Tell the President the War Is Over - New York Times
On friday night I had decided to go to Crawford,
to show support for Cindy Sheehan.
My group of Fort Worth Cindy supporters ,
got to Crawford Texas, at about noon.
Cindy spoke to our accumulating cadre,
on 3 occasions. Cindy's_Speech_Here
On seeing over 1,000 people and more cars lined
up entering "Camp Casey" Cindy said it was the
6th happiest day of her life, behind her marriage and
the births of her 4 children.
The Bush side will say,
they had 100's of supporters. In fact those that
support an unjust war, and the lies of George
W. Bush numbered less than 50 all total.
Some sick individuals and plants stood
across from us, declaring their devotion to GWB.
After the vigil, songs by Eliza Gilkyson
and others, Ray McGovern spoke to
us about the mess in Iraq, and how we
have proven that the reasons for being in
this immoral war, and all the lies about
the 9-11 tradgedy being associated with
the Iraq invasion.
The father of a murdered son,
Bill Mitchell spoke, more music, then
we went to the "Peace_House" a small property
purchased by John Wolfe, and others, so those
opposing the lies&deceit of Bush and co.,
can have a place to organize, re-charge , eat and some,
to sleep. As for me, I went to a small campsite nearby.
The Tonkawa Falls, swimming hole .
My friend Blanca Gonzales,( a truly inspirational woman),
and her daughters, invited me to camp
with them. This varried and lively group, stayed up
and talked until the "cows came home" as we say
in Texas. I did not sleep at all. A nearby granite factory,
was in full operation.. all night. I finally decided to
get up and shower: at the ladies shower, (the mens
facility had no water). As I was leaving the showers, a
most interesting woman appeared, I had met
Stephanie earlier, at the campsite.
Stephanie also couldn't sleep ,
She had the same idea as I did.
After Stephanie B. showered, we decided to
take a walk into Crawford., looking for a coffee shop
This was for me, the highlight of the trip.
I'll write more later, about my adventures in
Crawford, Texas . You can learn a lot about
a town, on foot at 5:30 in the morning,
with a writer from Houston. To all the
victims of the war dead ~ Hello In There

A question about "Justice Sunday" is, why would these conservative "value" voters want to hear from DeLay, a man who did government favors for Saipan (where abortions were mandatory for pregnant garment workers), a man who did those favors at the behest of an indicted lobbyist and DeLay fundraiser, Jack Abramoff? Why would they want DeLay, a man who's under multiple investigations for illegal and unethical campaign finance schemes, a man who threatens federal judges who don't do what he says?

Kool-Aid Economics
Although "the nation's faith in him is clearly tailing off, [President] Bush still seems pretty pleased with himself." The President and other administration officials have launched a public relations blitz in order "to win credit for the rash of positive economic news." If President Bush thinks the recent economic growth should be heralded as a victory for his fiscal policies, then he is suffering from "the soft bigotry of low expectations." "[Relative] to comparable past periods, the current economic recovery has, on balance, been worse than average." Not only is the most recent economic recovery inferior to previous ones in history but also it is leaving out a notable section of the citizenry. Treasury Secretary John Snow recently acknowledged, "the fruits of strong economic growth are not spreading equally to less educated Americans." Taken together, "the economy’s overall performance does not make up for the adverse fiscal effects of the recent tax cuts or the unusually uneven distribution of the economic gains from this recovery."

UPDATES ON CINDY SHEEHAN VISIT TO CRAWFORD
Frameshop: Cindy's Frame
Could it be that the War in Iraq will be stopped by one woman walking down a road in Texas?
As of today, it certainly seems so.
Yesterday afternoon, Cindy Sheehan, mother of a fallen soldier, marched toward the President's vacation home in Texas. Asked by reporters what she hoped to achieve, Cindy replied:
"I want to ask the president, why did you kill my son? What did my son die for?"…
But Cindy never got the meeting she was after…
[Y]esterday the story hit the news wires and and ricocheted around the world.
And so, the world joins all Americans as they look anxiously at the stand-off in Central Texas. The stakes are high. The sides are clear:
A mother cries out in anguish.
The President hides in silence.

Design for Confusion
By PAUL KRUGMAN
All intelligent design has to do to be effective is create confusion about the validity of evolutionary theory.

Below From : The Progress Report - Center for American Progress :
Being Intelligent About Intelligent Design
On Tuesday, just a few weeks after the 80th anniversary of the famous Scopes trial, President Bush expressed his support for teaching intelligent design in public schools, saying, "[b]oth sides ought to be properly taught...so people can understand what the debate is about." In so doing, he "invigorated proponents of teaching alternatives to evolution." That's where the problem lies. While there is nothing wrong with intelligent design as an idea, it is not a scientific theory. Treating it as such for political purposes does a disservice to the nation's children.

Message from Chairman
Howard Dean, Keep Fighting! :

|
Paul Hackett proved that Democrats can compete everywhere when we stand up for what we believe in.
Help make our 50 State Strategy a success by signing up for your Democracy Bond and making a monthly commitment to the Democratic Party today.
GET YOURS NOW!
|
Your mandate to fight everywhere had its first test last night.
Marine Major Paul Hackett ran for Congress in a special election in the most Republican district in Ohio. Republicans vowed to "bury" him, pundits wrote him off, and the conventional wisdom asked why Democrats would even bother to put up a fight.
But then something happened. With the infrastructure of local organizers we're building in Ohio and every other state, the most Republican district in Ohio became the most competitive district in Ohio -- a district where Bush won in 2004 by a margin of two to one. We energized thousands of grassroots volunteers and small donors in Ohio and across the country. We made our stand and we fought.
No, Paul Hackett didn't get elected to Congress yesterday. But he received 48.2 percent of the vote in a district where the Democratic candidate received only half that in the last four elections.
The formula is simple. Paul Hackett didn't apologize for being a Democrat, didn't hold back from criticizing a president who has failed to lead in Iraq and at home, and took a strong Democratic message into the heart of a Republican stronghold.
This district used to be written off. Now we have a network of Democrats, independents, and sensible Republicans who are tired of the out-of-touch Republican leadership and its culture of corruption. It proves that we can compete everywhere -- if we show up and fight, and give people a real choice.
This unprecedented result shows that Americans are hungry for change. In the words of one political analyst, Hackett's performance in supposedly safe Republican district means that something is "very, very wrong" for Republicans in 2006.
That's absolutely true. It also means that something is very, very right with our democracy.
For too long, we have conceded huge pieces of this country to the Republicans. No more. When we roll up our sleeves and fight we can compete everywhere -- and we will.
We're just getting started. We have moved people and resources into 25 states so far, and we are on our way into the next 25. We're building a permanent infrastructure to organize and build the Democratic base in every single precinct in the country -- an operation that will not disappear after a single election.
This effort is unprecedented and will fundamentally change the way our party does business. But the only way to do this building the community of people who have Democracy Bonds. A Democracy Bond is a commitment to give a small amount every month to build and sustain the Democratic Party everywhere.
Thousands of people have made the commitment already and are using tools on Democrats.org to grow the community and track their progress. If you want to fight everywhere, now is the time to join the Democracy Bonds community:

TV PREACHER PRAYS FOR MORE VACANCIES ON U.S. SUPREME COURT
Robertson Seems To View God As ‘Divine Hit Man,’ Says Americans United’s Lynn
TV preacher Pat Robertson is so eager to see the Supreme Court overturn decisions upholding civil liberties that he’s praying for God to create more vacancies on the high court.
Speaking on his nationally broadcast “700 Club” program Aug. 2, Robertson blasted the court for “egregious decisions that have taken us far away from the Constitution.” Among the rulings under fire from Robertson were Roe v. Wade, rulings on the “the so-called separation of church and state,” decisions protecting the civil rights of gay people and the ruling barring the death penalty for juveniles.
The Virginia Beach-based televangelist later launched into a prayer asking God for swift confirmation of Bush nominee John G. Roberts and more vacancies on the high court so that new justice can “dramatically change” judicial policy.
The Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, criticized Robertson’s actions.
“Robertson and other Religious Right leaders are so desperate to take over the Supreme Court that they’re trying to move heaven and earth,”

said. “They’re even trying to enlist God in their nefarious court-packing scheme.
“Robertson seems to view God as a divine hit man, taking out justices or anyone else who gets in the way of the Religious Right agenda,” said
Lynn
. “I think most Americans don’t like to see God dragged into this kind of divisive and demagogic politics.”
In the “700 Club” broadcast, Robertson laid out a religious political agenda for controlling the high court. He urged viewers to participate in “Operation Supreme Court Freedom,” a month-long prayer project intended to beseech God to replace current justices with “righteous judges.”
“Well, the time has come for somebody who says we’re not going to legislate from the bench, we’re going to abide by the Constitution,” Robertson said. “So the president has put forth one person, but there needs to be a couple more.”
Robertson then prayed: “Father, Lord, the government is in your hand, the rulers are in your hand. This great and mighty nation, Lord, stands as a beacon of hope to so many oppressed people. But Lord, if our foundations are crumbling, then this great beacon won’t stand for long. And we pray, Lord, that this one key area of our government might be dramatically changed, that we might see people who respect the Constitution and who respect the fundamental law of the land.
“Lord, give us righteous judges who will not try to legislate and dominate this society,” he continued. “Take control, Lord! We ask for additional vacancies on the court, and we ask for additional fine people like John Roberts. Lord, speed this hearing process; may there be no rancor. May the Senate comport itself as it should, and may we see peace, harmony and a rapid confirmation process. Do miracles, Lord. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
Lynn
noted that Robertson has a history of controversial activity, whether it’s commanding hurricanes to go out to sea or smiting communities that incur his wrath. He once speculated that
Orlando
might be hit by a meteor for allowing gay flags to be flown on city streets.
