Here we are again, in 2004, with another dubious election.

And, although evidence of fraud and vote rigging in the 2004 US election is mounting today, there was no widespread mobilization like the ones we encouraged in other nations or saw in Florida in 2000. Thus, it's extremely unlikely national institutions like the mainstream media, Congress, or the Supreme Court will seriously challenge or even expose to the general public the many deficiencies of this election.

THANKSGIVING
21 Reasons to Give Thanks

This Thanksgiving, progressives have a lot to be thankful for. Here's The Progress Report list:

We're thankful for our country's troops.

We're thankful for California's trailblazing on stem-cell research.

We're thankful that when Vice President Cheney decided to 'change the tone' in Washington small children were not present.

We're thankful for Rush Limbaugh, Bill Bennett, Jack Ryan, and Tom DeLay for helping us understand conservative moral values.

We're thankful for Costco, for showing Wal-Mart that you can offer rock-bottom prices without paying rock-bottom wages.

We're thankful for presidential term limits.

We're thankful for Canada, for picking up the slack and providing affordable drugs to America's seniors.

We're thankful for John Ashcroft finally making us safer…by resigning.

We're thankful for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge…for now.

We're thankful for Gen. Shinseki, Bunny Greenhouse and Eliot Spitzer for speaking truth to power.

We're thankful to President Bush for all of his hard work. 'Cause "no doubt about it, it's tough. It's hard work. It's incredibly hard."

We're thankful for policy wonks who read the fine print of the omnibus and stopped the turkeys in Congress from reading our income tax returns.

We're thankful for Starbucks, for providing health care to temporary employees, insider information to friendly progressives, and caffeine to the bleary-eyed Progress Report team.

We're thankful for Poland – we will remember you, always.

We're thankful for Air America for taking on conservative talk radio…and winning.

We're thankful for Jon Stewart for using comedy to highlight the essential truths – about the media, politicians, and – especially - Tucker Carlson.

We're thankful for the students, religious leaders and activists who have kept the spotlight on the Sudan while the rest of the world was riveted by Barry Bonds and Scott Peterson.

We're thankful that Halliburton isn't cooking our Thanksgiving dinner.

We're thankful for Republicans like Sens. Dick Lugar, Chuck Hagel and John McCain for putting principles over partisanship.

We're thankful to David Graham for having the guts to take on the pharmaceutical industry.

And last but not least: We're thankful to the Progress Report readers for their tips, energy and support.

Happy Thanksgiving! – The Progress Report Team.

VOTERGATE ? You goddamn right! Votergate 2004

There is no doubt, of course, that had the e-vote been on the other foot, FOX News and Drudge would be discussing voter irregularities 'round the clock. And if Kerry's brother were Florida's governor and had a track record of disenfranchising Republicans, Rush Limbaugh would be throwing tantrum after tantrum. What do you suppose would have happened had the head of a voting machine company promised to deliver Ohio's electoral votes to John Kerry? Irregularities and down right theft happening in our voting process cannot be brought to the forefront and repeated often enough!  It seems the leadership and mainstream media in this country have decided to keep mum, so it's up to the people to continue to demand a fair and honest process.  We must demand accountability, a process by which all the votes can be counted, and recounted when necessary, a process that insures crooked politicians cannot successfully steal another election from the American people

When John Kerry conceded before all the votes were counted, it took the wind out of my sails.  I had hoped there was some truth in the statements regarding his being a "strong finisher," and to say I felt overwhelming disappointment when I watched him give up so soon would be an understatement.  The general feeling has been this was not just another general election that would end after 4 years of disagreement, it was a feeling of life or death for democracy as we know it, the very essence of America, and it seemed as if our guy was ready to hang it all up ASAP. I hope and pray there are things going on that we aren't aware of, things like counting all the votes, making sure the errors in touch screen voting machines are caught and repaired, that provisional ballots are considered in the count, that we didn't stand in line for hours to vote for nothing, and that the monies many people couldn't afford but sent anyway were not wasted.  I have faith in a Democratic America, I do believe the people will win in the long run because the American people possess an indomitable spirit that cannot be broken. I am sad though for all that will happen under a Bush administration before then.

Subject: How I Stole Your Election

by George W. Bush

The first thing I did to steal your election was to make friends with
ALL the manufacturers and code-verifyers of the Electronic Voting
Machines. They were really nice, especially Diebold who gave me
$600,000 for my campaign. Wow, thanks dude!

http://nuclearfree.lynx.co.nz/stealing.htm

Next, I had my attack dog, Karl Rove, convince these companies to
either alter the vote totals on the central tabulator machines (simple
PCs running windows using Remote Access Server -- RAS), or reprogram
(via a downloadable software patch) the voting machines themselves so
that they would give the advantage to ME! Isn't America great?!? A
little money and some religious zealotry goes a looooong, loooong way.
Oh, the religious zealotry thing? That's just a cover. I'm not really a
Christian -- or at least I don't act like one. Anyway, I digress.

http://www.ejfi.org/Voting/Voting-25.htm#rig

Did you ever hear the media complaining about how inaccurate the exit
polls were in prior elections? No. That's because they basically ARE
accurate. But this election, the exit polls showed Kerry WAY ahead. No
problem. My buddies rigged the machines (and all they needed to do was
rig it in one state, Ohio, but they took care of at least Florida for
me too) not only to make me squeak by in the important battleground
states, like Florida and Ohio, but they also made sure that when I did
get a state that I was expected to win, the margin was HUGE so that my
"popular" vote would make it look like I had a mandate.

So let's recap how the popular vote thing worked again. Let's say we
didn't want it to look suspicious by taking states that Kerry really
would have won (except for Ohio and Florida, gotta take those! heh
heh). So we let him win there, but in order once again to boost the
"popular" vote (I put that in quotes because as you know, I'm not
REALLY popular), we bring my vote tallies RIGHT UP NEXT to Kerry's, to
jack up the "popular" vote as much as possible, even if I didn't win
the state.

Then, with states like North Carolina, we know we're going to steal the
state anyway (at least according to what the exit polls were telling
everyone.... and according to the long, long lines of new voters were
telling everyone ... because we all know most of those people were
voting for Kerry, not the status quo), so we just jack the crap out of
the vote total to REALLY stuff a crapload of "popular" votes in my
pocket. You see, this way I can get on the TV and declare that I have a
"mandate" and that I'm going to "cash in" on my political "capital"
(which I don't really have of course, but we made it look that way).

Here's a nice chart to show you what I mean. Take special note of how
the electronic voting machine totals compare to the paper ballot
totals. And see what I mean about North Carolina?

http://www.bandsagainstbush.org/cgi-bin/archives/exit_poll.gif

Look folks, if you really want me out of office, first you're going to
have to impeach me. But you know what, if you don't have verifiable
paper trails at the polls like these folks recommend

http://openvotingconsortium.org

and if you don't take these voting machines out of the hands of private
companies that are aligned with one end of the political spectrum, then
I'm gonna just continue to hose you (and then my brother Jeb will be
president too cause we're into this dynasty thing, kind of like my
buddies the Saudis... ain't it cool?!?). Also, in 2006, we're going to
steal about five more senate seats, and then we'll have the
"super-majority". That means the Democrats can't do that confounded
fillerbs... fillas.... fillbusters.... CRAP, well, they can't get in
the darn way any more and we can pass ANY laws we want about ANYTHING
and put whoever we want on the Supreme court. Ha ha, then you're REALLY
screwed. So if you don't fix this mess (I mean great system) in two
years and have a verifiable voting system nationwide, America is
MINE!!!!! (and Jeb's and my daddy's and Cheney's and Rove's... hey, we
could even pass a law saying I could be president for FOUR MORE YEARS
after 2008! That would be SOOO cool!) Anyway, I digress once again.

http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CHI411B.html

And that pesky Bev Harris. Man I wish she would go away. If too many of
you contribute to her cause, I might just get in trouble so KNOCK IT
OFF!!

http://www.blackboxvoting.org/

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Fool me once.....", oh
CRAP, I forgot again. Well how about this? "This would be a heck of lot
easier if this was a dictatorship.... just so long as I'm the dictator.
Heh, heh." Well, sorry to say folks, but I got my way. What are you
gonna do about it, huh? Bring it on!!!

http://votergate.tv/votergate/votergatethemovie_64kb.mov

"Sincerely" Yours, "President" George W. Bush
P.S. Pass it on! I dare ya.

Todays Word:Totalitarian :

Totalitarianism is any political system in which a citizen is totally subject to a governing authority in all aspects of day-to-day life. It goes well beyond dictatorship or typical police state measurers, and even beyond those measures required to sustain total war between states. It involves constant indoctrination achieved by propaganda to erase any potential for dissent, by anyone, including most especially the agents of government.

"Who would of thought the U.S.A. would be controlled by a Totalitarian regime from all branches of the government , all elections, down to all news media."~ MK

Zogby was concerned about the difference between some of the exit polls (surveys of individuals who have just cast ballots) and the official vote counts. "We're talking about the Free World here," he pointedly noted. 11/20

CLINTON LIBRARY
Party Like It's 1999

Does the opening of the Clinton Library in Little Rock make you nostalgic for grunge music and a time when life was like a box of chocolates? Waiting for your "Rachel" haircut to come back in style? Still convinced "the truth is out there"? You're in luck. Unpack your flannel, crack open a Crystal Pepsi and settle back to remember the good old days. Here is a look at life in the 1990s, compared to how things are today.

POVERTY: During the Clinton years, poverty fell by 25.2 percent. Poverty climbed steadily under President Bush, however. According to the most recent data from the Census Bureau, the number of Americans living in poverty has "risen ten percent since 2000." That means "nearly 36 million Americans – one in eight – now live in poverty and tens of millions are considered working poor."

WAGES: Wage growth has fallen dramatically over the past four years. In 2000, median weekly wages grew by 4.9 percent. This fell to a mere 2.0 percent in 2003, meaning that adjusted for inflation, "wages fell slightly in real terms in 2003 for the first time since 1996." For those who have found work, the recovery is of questionable value in an "upside down" economy where profits have soared yet families' benefits are nullified by the rapidly rising costs of housing, education, and medical care – all of which jumped at double digit rates.

UNEMPLOYMENT: There are more people unable to find work than four years ago. In 2000, the unemployment rate was 4 percent. During his terms, President Clinton created 22.7 million jobs. Putting that in historical perspective, that's "the most created under any single president since the 1920s, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics." Under President Bush, 490,000 jobs disappeared, making him the first president since Herbert Hoover to have fewer available jobs at the end of his term than at the beginning.

DEFICITS: Under President Clinton, the U.S. government had "its first budget surpluses since 1969, and its largest surpluses on record." Not only was there a total budget surplus of $176 billion, the Clinton Treasury "actually paid off $362.5 billion of debt held by the public." President Bush reversed this trend, racking up a record $422 billion deficit. Instead of paying down the debt, the Bush Treasury has needed three debt ceiling increases over the past four years and is calling this week for a fourth. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, there's no end in sight; if President Bush succeeds in passing his 2005 budget – with the extension of his tax cuts – there will be  $6.2 trillion in additional debt between now and 2014, nearly doubling our current debt ($7.38 trillion) for a total of $14.5 trillion.

ABORTION: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, during the Clinton years, the abortion rate fell by about 27 percent. A new independent study by an ethics professor at Fuller Theological Seminary finds that today, "contrary to popular assumption, abortion has risen in the U.S. during George W. Bush's presidency."

Americans can never again expect free and fair elections, unless and until there is a way to verify that the vote cast is the vote counted. Technology has taken over in America, favoring the Repuglican party, just like the casino slot machines thriving in the desert with their pre-programmed payoffs. As an electorate we must demand accountability and take responsibility for our future, we must demand the right to vote, the right to have that vote counted, and the right to expect that the candidate who actually received the most votes will win.

One-stop "election fraud" shop

If you're still trying to figure out if Bush stole the election or not, go check out this new blog, "Something's Rotten in the State of Denmark." It's not a conspiracy site, but it's examining the issue pretty thoroughly. The author—an anonymous Democrat—is picking through each of the voting-fraud theories, and seeing whether each one can be debunked, or is worth following up. (Link via Mickey Kaus, who has much more to say on the whole matter.)

Worth reading. And, I think, it takes exactly the right tone on the matter. Irregularities in the election no doubt occurred, and they need to be checked. But that's about it. Screaming "Bush cheated!" at every turn only hurts the cause, and is likely to turn people away from the issue altogether.

Stolen Election. America Hijacked. -- A BuzzFlash Reader Contribution
http://www.buzzflash.com/contributors/04/11/con04491.html

this from: Barbara's Daily Buzz
http://www.buzzflash.com/dailybuzz/

The Repuglicans are already out front via that infamous toe sucker, Dick Morris, attempting to reframe the truth by claiming the exit polls in 6 states were tampered with by a person or persons unknown. They want to get it out there before someone finds out the real truth, that the election results were tampered with in those same 6 states. He plainly states that exit polls are almost never wrong, and you know what folks, they weren't wrong this time either. Some well known persons rigged this election. There needs to be an investigation and heads must roll if Democracy is to prevail in America. I will never accept Bush as a legitimate president!

The exit polls were dismissed as being innaccurate. But their accuracy depended on the type of voting machine that was used, implying that the machines, not the polls, were inaccurate.

What the Democrats need now in a party chairman is an astute political analyst with a proven track record. Sounds like a job for Bill Clinton.
