BuzzFlash Recommendation
Okay, so the whole idea of impeaching George W. Bush is impractical. After all, Tom "Exterminator" DeLay controls the House of Representatives with an iron fist -- and that's where impeachment proceedings would begin. And, of course, the Senate, which would oversee the impeachment, is run by Bill "Cat Killer" Frist. So, it ain't going to happen, right?
Right.
But that's maybe why you might want to read this book, because it should happen!
Republicans claimed Clinton lied about oral sex. The entire GOP reign is one big pyramid scheme of lies, with Bush and Cheney at the top of the pyramid. The corporate press is the spigot through which their mendacity drenches the masses of America.
But give John Bonifaz his due. Bush and Cheney, if there were justice, would be impeached and prosecuted for high crimes and misdemeanors. Their betrayal is akin to treason.
Bonifaz makes the case for impeachment because there is one. Enough said.

Stop Computer Voting In Your State
Computer voting systems are coming, even though they are "not ready for prime time." The corporations that make them are keeping secret how the machines work, saying, "Trust us, nothing can go wrong." They don't even have a way to have a real recount should the machines crash or there be any other reason to think that something might have gone wrong. When Maryland election officials tested the machines, hackers were able to compromise the systems in a matter of minutes.
But this is a rare example of a serious problem that has a simple remedy. The machines can be opened up to election officials for monitoring, and each voter can check a printout of his or her vote to confirm that it was entered correctly. Then the paper version can be collected and be available for routine audits and recounts if necessary. This creates a voter-verified paper trail.
State election officials in California and Nevada have already used their own authority to protect their citizens by requiring that computer voting systems in their states provide the voter-verified paper trail. You deserve the same protection. Tell your chief election official to do the same in your state. Just fill out this form and we'll match you up to your election official and send them the message to your right.
To send a fax to your chief election official urging him/her to have a voter verified paper trail, click here.

Att: Voters
I am sickened and saddened by a new Bush-Cheney attack ad released yesterday. It is a malicious insult to a man who has spent his entire life -- from the battlefield to the Senate -- fighting to make America strong and safe.
We can fire back now at this slanderous attack on the airwaves but only with your help:
https://contribute.johnkerry.com
The ad accuses Kerry of voting against body armor for our troops. A bizarre claim considering it was George Bush who sent 40,000 U.S. troops to Iraq without the proper body armor. I wish I could blame overzealous political consultants for the ad, but George Bush watched and approved it himself -- one more reminder that the Bush-Cheney Campaign will do and say anything to hold onto power.
You have to see the ad for yourself to understand how low the Bush campaign is willing to go and how dishonest they're willing to be. But most of you won't see it because it is being run in only a few key "swing states." President Bush has already spent nearly $50 million on misleading ads, more than any other candidate in history. (See below for a link to the ad and a D-Bunking of it.)
John Kerry is under fire -- help us fire back with a contribution:
https://contribute.johnkerry.com
We'll keep fighting. But we can only do it with your support. We know that we'll be able to counter this new attack campaign, just like the others -- but only because those of you receiving this email will give us the means to fight another day.
Thank you,
Mary Beth Cahill Campaign Manager, John Kerry for President

Latest Polls
The electoral college is divided up along the lines of population: the states with the highest populations, according to the latest census, get the most electoral votes. So, despite Gallup and AP's efforts to fudge Bush into a lead, a state by state breakdown -- covering far more voters over a wider area -- shows that Kerry leads Bush in electoral votes 204 to 176. In other words, although Bush is carrying the most states, Kerry is carrying the most people. In other words, Bush has chalked up more "real estate" while Kerry has won more voters. http://www.washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20040423-050230-3304r.htm

From the Jay Leno Show
Happy Earth Day everybody! President Bush and John Kerry celebrated Earth Day by slinging mud at each other.
A lot of people marked earth day by walking to work. They're not environmentalists, they just can't afford the gas.
President Bush spoke out about the environment today. He’s against it.
Earth Day is Al Gore’s favorite day. You know his least favorite day? Election Day.
Here’s the big story – Republican Senator Chuck Hagel says it may be time to reinstate the draft. In fact when President Bush heard about it he said, "Uh-oh, does that mean I have to go back to Alabama?”
* On "60 Minutes” on last Sunday Bob Woodward suggested that the main reason President Bush took the country to war is that he thinks he’s on a mission from God. Of course the problem with that is, it’s also Osama bin Laden’s reason.
*Spain, could they run any faster? Apparently they were thrilled when they found out the Bagdad Hilton has express checkout. Let’s see what’s happening on "Survivor: Iraq”. Let me see. Spain is gone. The Dominican Republic is gone. Honduras has left. That leaves the U.S. and Britain.
* Bob Woodward’s new book "Plan of Attack” about President Bush is now the number one book in the country. Bush is really upset about this. First there was the Paul O'neill book, then Richard Clarke's book, then John Dean's book - Bush is going "Do I have to read another book?"

Today is Earth Day and I am afraid. For three decades, we have been fighting to protect the environment and have been proud of the great strides our country has taken. If George Bush is reelected we can count on the continuation of his agenda to undo all the advances we have struggled to achieve.
To put it simply, George Bush's environmental policies endanger our health, loot our natural resources, and destroy the possibility of a secure energy future. George Bush may claim his environmental policies promote "healthy forests" and "clear skies" but those labels are both disingenuous and false. Most of his initiatives are nothing more than payoffs for wealthy campaign contributors.
We need a President who understands that patriotism includes protecting our nation's incomparable natural wonders, not looking at them merely as oil depositories. Throughout his career John Kerry has fought to clean up toxic waste sites, to keep our air and water clean, and to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and other pristine wilderness areas. John Kerry has been one of the environment's greatest defenders.
I believe John Kerry will do what the President of the United States should do, which is to genuinely lead with a new era of solutions that are good for jobs and economic growth, public health, and the environment. He deserves our support.
On behalf of our environment, this Earth Day help me make sure the next generation will not have to deal with the devastating environmental consequences of the Bush Administration -- make a contribution to John Kerry today.

Every day in America, 85,444 workers lose their jobs. 14.7 million people are jobless, underemployed or have given up looking for work. 43.6 million people have no health insurance. 4,227 people file for personal bankruptcy. 12,878 workers are injured or made ill by their jobs. 6.8 million people are in the workforce but are still poor. 11 million children attend broken-down schools.
These are the almost-numbing statistics about the state of America's working families. They are among the most important parts of the case against George W. Bush. How could somebody do so little while so many hurt?
Worse, many Bush policies exacerbate these problems. His proposal to take away overtime pay from some 8 million American workers will surely increase the number of people who work but are still poor. It will also mean bosses demand more time at work and less time for families, children and self.
Tax breaks for corporations that export jobs are another kick. If the benefits of globalization were the creation of information technology (IT) and other white-collar jobs, these benefits bypassed America. India, the Philippines and other countries were the winners in that contest. More than 14 million white-collar jobs could be shipped overseas during the next few years, according to a University of California, Berkeley study.
What's missing from this accountant-like recitation of the economic restructuring of today and the future? People. The ripple effects across our nation and our economy reach families and homes.
Waking Up From The American Dream
Myra, 40, was working an IT job at WatchMark Corp. for two years. One day, her entire department was informed they would be laid off in one month. Worse, they were told to train their Indian replacements or lose their severance package. Still without work after a 10-month search, Myra's unemployment benefits just ran out.
"My life has changed drastically over my 10 months of unemployment. I?ve cashed in my 401(k), can no longer afford health insurance and can just barely pay the rest of the bills. I no longer plan for the future; I just try to make it through the present. I?ve even resorted to selling a number of my things on eBay to get money for essentials."
"I think that my biggest struggles throughout this experience are the constant feelings of powerlessness and paralysis. I did everything I could to succeed. I got a good education. I paid off big student loans. I worked hard at my job. But I now realize that it doesn?t matter what I do to make myself a marketable employee if there are no policies in this country to protect our jobs from being sent overseas to someone who will work for 1/16th the price. I can?t compete with that. You could say that I woke up from the American dream."
The Electrolux Tragedy
These stories of job loss aren't isolated to individuals. Entire communities and families are devastated when it is a company town that takes a hit. Greenville, Mich., is home to an Electrolux refrigerator factory. Electrolux has announced its plan to shutter the plant and move it to Mexico. The plant?s 2,700 workers will lose their jobs.
As the rally proceeded, Ember, the 15-year old granddaughter of a local Electrolux worker and member of UAW Local 137, read a letter from the mayor. Before she began to read the letter, she shared that her family is without work. This teenager?crying a little now?recounted that her family might lose their home, their car or worse. She's afraid, asking "what will we have?" and goes silent, in tears. The crowd paused in silence, but then in a deep baritone voice from the back of the room, a crowd member shouted out, "You've got us," and the crowd applauded.
A local union leader stood up to recount the story of their efforts to save the Electrolux jobs. At a meeting, a company executive explained that the fate of the Greenville factory was set. In fact, the company would have moved the jobs to China rather than Mexico, except the refrigerators were too big for the shipping containers used on container ships that go from China to the United States.
The lesson was clear: the fate of the Greenville families is tied up in the torrent of the global economy. Without a change they are done. Judging by the applause lines, the change they seek is a change in leadership?dumping Bush.
The Power Of Coming Together
It isn't only jobless Americans who are feeling hit by the Bush economy. Kansas representative Randy, 48, has been out of the military since 1979 and has worked at Boeing for the past 24 years as an engineering technician in a metrology laboratory. Randy is doing the same job for Boeing that he was trained to do in the military, and as a result of the Bush administration's overtime pay take-away, he will likely lose his right to overtime pay. A one-line provision buried in the Bush regulation uses military service as criteria for stripping Randy and other veterans of their right to overtime pay.
"How do you tell the people who are laying down their lives in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, 'Thank you very much for your service, and now that you're home, no overtime pay for you?' This just is not fair."
"I am just a regular American, and I have to make a difference. You have to. We have to. We have to stand up and say, 'We're mad as hell, and we're not going to take it anymore.' We have to be willing to work?not just at our jobs but also for our jobs. We've got to get out in the streets, on the radio, in the newspapers, knocking on doors, standing in front of crowds?whether we want to or not."
"There is no 'someone' who is going to fix America. There is only us?you and I and all of our regular American friends and family and colleagues."
Sounds right to me.

April 15th is a day most Americans dread. But this year a select few will be celebrating a phenomenal return on an investment made four years ago: they contributed to George Bush's 2000 campaign, and now they're getting a tax cut of $112,000. No wonder Bush's fundraisers have no trouble pulling in huge bundles of $2,000 checks. Even his Cabinet netted $2.5 million in tax cuts.
Meanwhile, the rest of America is paying over $2,000 more for college tuition, healthcare, and gas alone. Middle class families are struggling -- they're the ones who deserve a real tax cut. John Kerry wants to provide real tax relief for the middle class and stop spiraling costs from squeezing the middle class.
Bush's campaign is buying an avalanche of TV ads in key states. Last month, hundreds of thousands of donors gave us the power to match those ads. But we've got to keep that up this month by matching every one of Bush's $2,000 checks with a slew of small contributions. To win this campaign, we've simply got to do this.
Even $25 makes a huge impact -- please donate now:

In honor of Bush's cabinet's approximate $2.5 million tax cut, we're making that the fundraising goal for this week's campaign. Check JohnKerry.com starting tomorrow for a special progress meter designed just for this campaign!

TV isn't the only way for candidates to get their message out anymore. Now there's you. Throughout this campaign we'll be relying on you to bring John Kerry's vision to your office water cooler, your friends' kitchen tables and your newspaper's letters page.
This week -- tax week -- we're asking our email list of 500,000 activists and supporters to write letters to the editor about how George Bush's failed economic policies are hurting the middle class. We've released a report (see below) that shows the cost of health care, college tuition, and gas, as well as bankruptcies skyrocketing under George Bush. Our goal this week is to get the facts from this report into the news. By writing a letter to your local paper you'll be a crucial part of making that happen.
At the bottom of this email we've included a summary and link to the report, as well as a guide to writing effective letters to the editor. Letters to the editor have a huge impact and even if your letter isn't published, you're showing local editors what their readers care about. Remember, Thursday is April 15th -- the perfect hook for editors looking for timely pieces.
When you write a letter, tell us where you sent it by clicking here:
http://johnkerry.com/letters
You can double the impact of your letter by forwarding this email onto your friends and having them send letters to their local papers as well.
As the leader of the Internet & Technology team, I want to thank you for everything you've done so far. The supporters on this email list broke all fundraising records last month, and I'm looking forward to all that we'll accomplish over the next seven months.
Thank you,
Josh Ross & the Internet Team
Tips for writing good letters to the editor:
- Your letter will reach the editor faster if you send it by email.
- You can find the right address on your newspaper's homepage or online editor page.
- Check your letter for typos, spelling, and grammar before you send.
- Include all your contact information including address and phone number. (These will not be printed, but it is important to have a way for the editor to reach you if need be.)
- Keep it short. Be economical with your words. Go over the letter and take anything out that is repetitive.
- Stick to one central point.
- Humor is good. Include a funny line if you can.
Outline of the "Misery Index Report": Click here for the full report. John Kerry for President has released a report that reveals a dramatic worsening of a "Middleclass Misery Index" which combines seven different indicators: median family income, college tuition, health costs, gasoline cost, bankruptcies, the homeownership rate, and private-sector job growth. The Middleclass Misery Index worsened by 13 points, the largest three-year fall on record. How George W. Bush compares to previous Presidents:
| Previous Presidents |
Change in the Middle-class Misery Index |
| Carter |
6 |
| Reagan |
-5 |
| Bush I |
-12 |
| Clinton |
23 |
| Bush II |
-13 | Incomes have declined by $1,462 under President Bush. In the last year the middle class has experienced near-record jumps in the cost of healthcare, college tuition, and gas:
- College tuition up 13 percent -- the largest increase on record
- Health premiums up 11 percent -- the largest increase since 1977
- Gas prices have risen by 15 percent, causing the average family to spend $300 more per year -- the second largest increase since 1980
John Kerry's proposals -- including $225 billion of middle class tax cuts for health and education -- address all aspects of the middle-class squeeze. John Kerry's plan includes:
- Creating 10 million new jobs
- Promoting universal access to college
- Providing affordable health insurance for all Americans
- Creating energy independence
Taxes:
- The Bush Campaign's strategy on taxes is to convince America that John Kerry wants to raise them. Right now Dick Cheney is pushing an absurd distortion that John Kerry wants to raise taxes by $1.7 trillion dollars.
- In fact, John Kerry wants to lower taxes for 98% of Americans while seeking fiscal discipline by repealing the budget-busting tax cuts Bush gave to the richest Americans making over $200,000 a year.

It's a fact. Because of George Bush's reckless fiscal policies, every American child born today owes a $20,000 debt he or she had no part in creating. Not exactly the American Dream our ancestors had in mind.
George Bush proposes $6 trillion in spending without any way to pay for it. He has cut taxes for Americans earning over $200,000. Meanwhile, the middle class is struggling to pay more for health care, education, and local taxes.
I want to show that Americans won't tolerate a president who borrows from our children's future for his own short-term political gain. Help me do this by signing my petition to George Bush:

Please forward this e-mail to your friends. The Bush-Cheney machine has spent relentlessly to run ads that wildly distort my record. You can help set the record straight by forwarding these facts voters should know:
- Nearly all Americans will pay lower taxes under my economic plan: 98% of individuals and 99% of companies.
- Americans making over $200,000 will return to the tax rates paid under Bill Clinton.
- I have fought to end corporate welfare and save taxpayers billions of dollars every year, and I will continue to fight as president to close corporate tax loopholes.
- My economic plan will impose spending restraints so no one can propose a new program without paying for it.
By signing my petition to George Bush, you can show that Americans are tired of borrow-and-spend Republicans who have no concern for tomorrow. The greater the number of Americans who sign on, the more powerful our message that it's time to restore fiscal sanity to our government. Please sign my letter: http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/responsibility.php Thank you,
